“CITY ISLAND”
A prison guard (Andy Garcia) is keeping a secret from his family. Director/writer Raymond De Felitta starts the movie on a screaming high note but slowly turns down the volume until his characters resonate with a deep and pure honesty.

The guard’s children have secrets. His college student daughter (Dominik Garcia-Lorido) has lost her scholarship and turned to stripping to make money. Teenage son Vinnie Jr. (Ezra Miller) is sexually obsessed with large women.

A voice of reason arrives in an unusual form when Vince brings home a paroled prisoner (Steven Strait), who also happens to be his long-lost son.
Garcia turns in one of his finest performances.

“THE BACK-UP PLAN”
Jennifer Lopez plays a single woman who meets the man of her dreams on the very day she’s artificially inseminated with twins.

Lopez wanted just the right script for her return to films after taking a four-year break from acting to have twins. If the best she could find was this film, she should’ve waited a few more years — possibly decades.

“The Back-up Plan” is a perfect storm of failure with uninteresting characters, familiar plot, bland direction and forced acting. This movie would have to improve 100 percent just to equal a bad sitcom or direct-to-DVD release.

“LOST: THE COMPLETE SIXTH AND FINAL SEASON”: Debates started as soon as the finale of this network show aired. Some thought the ending perfectly wrapped up the mysterious network series starring Matthew Fox. Others ended up just being lost.

Now you can rewatch the last season and check out all the extras. It will either clear up the debates or start more.
