New on DVD
‘My Boys: The Complete Second & Third Season’
One of the most under-appreciated actors on TV is Jordana Spiro, who plays PJ Franklin in this always funny cable series. PJ and her “boys” (Michael Bunin, Jim Gaffigan, Reid Scott and Kyle Howard) are the best group of friends on TV since “Friends.” Most of the plots revolve around PJ, who wants to be one of the guys but also find a man. The DVD set includes 18 episodes that will get you caught up with one of cable’s best comedies.
‘Cop Out’
Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan star in this story about detectives looking for a stolen baseball card. The film is perfectly bad. It combines a shallow script with nonexistent direction and tops it off with acting that would have to improve one million percent just to be insufferable. Willis sleepwalks his way through the role. But worse, Morgan’s idea of acting is either to screech or make a stupid face.
‘The Losers’
After being betrayed and left for dead, members of a CIA black ops team root out those who targeted them for assassination. Movies based on comic books work best if they’re either deadly serious like “The Dark Knight” or insanely over-the-top like “Kick-Ass.” “The Losers” director Sylvain White tried to do both, leaving the film a befuddled mess.
