Children’s Museum hosts road races

DOVER — The Children’s Museum of New Hampshire hosts the Footbridge 5K Road Race & Children’s Fun Run on Saturday, May 1. This is the second year the museum has held its annual fund-raising race in downtown Dover.
This is the first race in the Seacoast Road Race Series. Runners who complete six of the eight races in the series, including two that are longer than 5K, are awarded a coveted running jacket and can win other prizes, too.
The overall series is in its sixth year. There is no cost to participate, though registration is required.
The Footbridge 5K Road Race begins at 9 a.m. at the intersection of Central and Henry Law avenues and Washington Street, just in front of the museum.
The course runs up Central Avenue to Chapel Street, up Portland Avenue and back, finishing with a run across Dover’s covered footbridge and back around to Henry Law Park.
A division for competitive walkers/race-walkers has been added this year. Post-race activities, including an awards ceremony and refreshments, will take place in Henry Law Park following the race. Top finishers will receive live lobsters courtesy of Weathervane Seafoods.
In addition, the first 250 paid registrants will receive free T-shirts featuring a new logo designed by Seacoast artist Nathan Walker. The 5K registration fee is $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the race.
Children ages 12 and younger can participate in the Fun Run, which takes place at 10:30 a.m. in Henry Law Park. The Fun Run features:
a 1/2-mile race, two 1/4-mile races (one for children 6 and younger, another for children ages 7 to 10), and a free 50-yard dash for children age 4 and younger.
All Fun Run participants will receive a blue ribbon. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers of the longer races. The entry fee is $8 in advance and $10 on race day. There is no fee for children participating in the 50-yard dash, although a signed release form is required.
Runners may register at The Children’s Museum on Friday, April 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. Walk-up registration will be available at The Children’s Museum on race day starting at 7:30 a.m. up until 15 minutes prior to the start of each race.
